Arts at Old First is pleased to present RAISE THE ROOF WITH A CAPPELLA — a benefit concert hosted by the Fourth Mission Committee at Old First Reformed Church, featuring a spectacular musical lineup of local Brooklyn a cappella talent. All artists are donating their performances, to benefit the Old First Ceiling Restoration Fund.

Featuring: Brooklyn’s own PERSUASIONS, The sophisticated harmonies of VOX BOP, Old First’s in-house ADOLESAINTS, PolyPrep’s UNACCOMPANIED MINORS, and musical interludes provided by the fiery fiddling of PITNACREE

Saturday May 4 | John Milton’s Paradise Lost: A Theater Workshop Event

1-11pm | Old First Reformed Church, 729 Carroll, Brooklyn

Come enjoy this one-of-a-kind theatre workshop experience! 25 theater artists have joined forces to serve up a one-time-only, epic concert reading of a lusciously abridged version of Paradise Lost. This daring crew of upstart creatures reduces Milton’s masterpiece to a fully digestible daylong event, steeped in action-packed angel warfare, celestial majesty and original sin. With a mouth-watering menu prepared and served by the artists themselves, this epic event is a guaranteed once-in-a-lifetime experience. Epic food; sinful nourishment. GET FED. Presented by the Upstart Creatures.

Sunday, May 19, 3pm | Children’s Book Week Family Event

Celebrate Children’s Book Week in Park Slope, Brooklyn!

Arts at Old First is pleased to present a Children’s Book Week event featuring local authors and musicians. Children of all ages (and their grownups) are invited to come and enjoy this wonderful family event, which will encompass books, movies, costumes and cookies into one magical afternoon. Each event will run twice, at 3pm and 4pm.

UPSTAIRS: Story time with author Sara Varon and illustrator Cecil Castellucci (Odd Duck), author Stephanie Graegin and illustrator Emily Jenkins (Water in the Park), and author/illustrator Brett Helquist (Grumpy Goat). Illustrators will be doing drawings in addition to the readings. Book signing to follow.

DOWNSTAIRS: Music program featuring music from favorite children’s movies including Harry Potter, Star Wars, and West Side Story. Performed by local Brooklyn-based brass quintet, led by Mary Ziegler Roberts, and made up of 5 local educators and freelance musicians. Children are invited to come in costume as their favorite character from a book or movie. Cookies served after the program.
